The Dusit Thani Resort is a high-class resort located along the Northern tip of the Mactan Peninsula. The site is subjected to strong waves from the Amihan and Habagat seasons, which is further amplified by the coastline’s geographic orientation. Significant erosion was observed along almost the whole beachfront, wherein only a small patch near the breakwater is visible.

AMH was commissioned to determine the root causes and mitigating measures to solve the immediate problem at hand. An intensive site reconnaissance was conducted by coastal engineers, including conducting a local survey to determine seabed depths, together with sediment sampling and testing of the existing sand material. These data were then digitized and a model of the project area was produced, prior to simulative analysis of waves, tides, currents, which are considered the main drivers of sand movement. Upon detailed review of the results, recommendations on the possible breakwater layouts were determined for the project site.
