Project Title

Hydrologic Study for the Taganito Mines Phase 6 Settling Pond

Client

Nickel Asia Corp. and Taganito Mining Corp.

Location

Taganito, Claver, Surigao Del Norte

Nickel Asia Corporation and Taganito Mining Corporation engaged AMH to conduct hydrologic and hydraulic studies for the Taganito Mining Phase 6 Settling Pond in Taganito, Claver, Surigao del Norte. The project site is located within the mountain range of Claver and situated beside the Taganito River, mainly characterized by forests, open green cover and steep slopes.

The objective of the study was to conduct engineering assessment of the settling pond and dikes in order to establish its suitability and adequacy. The hydrologic study included the delineation and characterization of the watershed, determination of the design rainfall intensity and recurrence period, and estimation of peak discharges. A 2D unsteady flow analysis using the calculated peak discharge of the catchment area was used to determine the maximum flood level in the project site. The maximum shear was also determined to investigate the scouring potential and recommend mitigating measures.
